Know what is WDSEML file and how to open files with .wdseml extension. Also, find the steps to enable/disable Thunderbird settings that create .wdseml file on your system.

WDSEML stands for Windows Desktop Search Email.

What is WDSEML File?

A WDSEML file is a file associated with Mozilla Thunderbird. Thunderbird is a free, open-source, cross-platform desktop email client and news application. The WDSEML file contains information on emails stored in Thunderbird and helps users to look for specific content in the email messages when executing Windows searches.

More information:

WDSEML files are partial copies of your email messages, not important enough to require your attention. It is known as Thunderbird searchable email files. Its existence simply allows you to search for message content from the Windows search directly. It is not meant to be opened manually by users since it has no need.

Where does Thunderbird store WDSEML file?

Thunderbird creates files with .wdseml extension within .mozmsgs folders at the same place where your mailboxes are stored i.e., in the Profiles folder.

Default Location for IMAP accounts:

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\cqgji0s7.default-release\ImapMail\

Default Location for POP accounts & Local Folder:

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\cqgji0s7.default-release\Mail\

If your Thunderbird stores email messages at a custom location, the .wdseml files will be present at that location only. To check the profile location, right-click on your email account >> Settings >> Server Settings >> find the database location in Local Directory.

Correcting A Misinformation!

WDSEML file does not contain actual email messages. It is only a reference file created by Thunderbird to enable Windows search in finding the content of the stored email messages.

How to Open & View WDSEML File Content?

You can use Mozilla Thunderbird application to easily open the WDSEML file. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click on the WDSEML file.
  2. Choose Open With option.
  3. Select Mozilla Thunderbird app.
  4. If its unavailable, click on More Apps >> look for another app on this pc and select thunderbird.exe from C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\
  5. Click OK.

If you are still unable to open it using Thunderbird, then make sure to update the Thunderbird application to the latest version.

  1. To do this, press the Alt button to display hidden menu and select Help menu.
  2. Then, click on About Thunderbird.
  3. It will check for updates. Click on Update button, if available.

How to Disable Settings to Stop Creating WDSEML File?

The WDSEML files are of no significance to users who do not use Windows search function to find email messages content. In that case, it just takes unnecessary space and makes the folders look more complex than it truly is. Its better to simply disable this function.

To disable settings, do the following:

  • In Thunderbird, go to Tools menu and select Options (Press Alt key if menu is hidden).

tools options

  • In the General tab, deselect the Allow Windows Search to search messages checkbox under System Integration.

allow windows search

  • Also, click on Check Now… and deselect the same checkbox here. Click Set as Default.

set as default

  • Restart Thunderbird.
  • No further WDSEML files will be generated from now on.

Note: If you want to enable settings to start creating WDSEML file, simply re-check the Allow Windows search to search messages in the aforemetioned steps.

Of course, you will have to delete the already generated files from your system. Which brings us to a new question – What if I delete this file accidentally?

Nothing will happen. As already discussed, WDSEML files do not contain actual data visible in Thunderbird. You can simply go to the Profile location, and delete the entire .mozmsg subfolders containing the .wdseml files. Nothing will happen other than a clean folder space.

What you are thinking about this? Is Alexa listens? Does Amazon Alexa always listen?

“I have Alexa voice digital assistance in my home. Last night, when I was sleeping in my bedroom. I do not know the reason but suddenly Alexa automatically opens & starts continuously laughing. I was not able to understand what is going on there. I shut down the main power of Alexa Assistance & then try to sleep again. I have a question that is regularly moving all over my mind. Is Alexa Always Listening? Can we say Alexa an Accidental Trigger of Digital Assistance? Please help me to get the solution for the same!”

Here in this blog, we are going to discuss how Alexa’s home assistant works, its needs and also knows is Alexa always recording you? Let’s start it…

What Is Alexa Assistant?

Alexa Assistant is a utility proposed by Amazon which is used to respond in voice command of the users. This is a virtual assistant developed by Amazon which is previously used in Amazon Smart speakers. It can follow commands, music playback & a lot more. The home assistant of Alexa can control multiple devices easily. In many devices, Alexa can automatically wake up using the command “wake” or in some devices, we have to push the button to access Alexa.

Now we are familiar with Alexa’s work. So, we have to discuss the issue that “Is Alexa Listen or does Amazon Alexa always listen”. In the below sections, we will try to find out what this voice assistant used for and find the answer to is Alexa always recording you.

What Alexa Used For?

how does alexa home assistant work

Alexa can perform several functions such as set timers, create lists, check weather reports, and many more things. Some of the popular Alexa skills are mention below:

  • Home Automation: Alexa can interact with different devices, the home automation feature was developed on April 8, 2015.
  • Food Ordering: Food can be ordered using Alexa. Also, users can order meals using Amazon Prime now.
  • Music: Alexa supports multiple subscription-based and free services on Amazon devices. These include Prime Music, Amazon Music, Spotify, Pandora premium. Amazon Alexa is directly able to stream media and music.
  • Sports: Alexa also allows users to hear updates on supported sports teams. Add the sports which you like to the lists created under the Alexa sports app.
  • Messaging and calls: There are various ways to send messages from the Alexa application. It can send messages only from the Alexa app. But it doesn’t support attachments such as videos and photos.
  • Traffic Updates: Through this feature, Alexa can update the users about their traffic conditions or directions.

When does Alexa Listen?

is alexa always recording you

The microphone in these voice assistants is always listening but, they listen only when they are wake by the ‘wake word’ or with ‘activation keyword’. So, when you say ‘Hey Alexa’ or any other wake word, the audio gets analyzed and is being listened to by the microphone present on the device. And only if the ‘Alexa’ or any other wake word is detected, then everything that you say after that gets recorded or you can say Amazon Alexa constantly recording your voice.

Once the device records, Alexa uploads the recorded voice to Amazon’s cloud where they have algorithms in the server. The algorithms analyze the voice pattern and try to figure out the words which you have spoken. The process seems instantaneous but it has to work with Amazon’s cloud. This means that each time you wake up Alexa, the voice assistant is recording your conversations.

Does Alexa is an Accidental Trigger of Digital Assistant?

In the above sections, we have discussed when Alexa listens and records. The reality is, there are various reasons when the device gets accidentally activate and record in the situation when you are not expecting it. The study says if you just use Alexa in a conversation or you say something that sounds like Alexa, then the voice assistant gets activated. Sometimes these voice assistants misinterpreted things and do such tasks that they are not commanded to do. Due to these unwanted activities, they can be accidental triggers of digital assistant and we think that does Amazon Alexa always listen?

Today, we’ve got a piece of big news for all the Outlook.com users and it will definitely serve them well. So, the thing is ‘Microsoft is going to integrate Gmail, Google Drive, and Calendar into Outlook.com webmail client and the integration has quietly been tested with some accounts.

Microsoft and Google are two big names today and both have been competitors for years. However, before a few days, Microsoft Outlook.com webmail service seems to be warming up to some widely used Google services including Gmail, G Drive, and Calendar.

On Wednesday a Twitter user tweeted a screenshot to show a new feature in Outlook.com to integrate Gmail, Google Drive and Google Calendar with Outlook.com account. This feature is slowly rolling out for some Outlook.com users and Microsoft does not disclose anything about this yet. Soon Outlook.com users will be able to simply link their Google account to Outlook.com account just after doing a quick setup. This amazing feature will allow users to interact and share content between Outlook.com and Google account from the same panel.

A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed the services integration test and stated. “We always work for new ideas for delivering the best email experience to our clients. Now we’re testing service integration with a few Outlook.com user accounts and gathering their feedback.

Outlook.com account integration with Google Drive will support all types of files and documents as well. This will make easier for users to attach Google Drive files to both Outlook and Gmail emails. At this moment, you cannot add more than one Gmail account and if you’ll switch accounts, it will update the whole page. All the users who have subscribed to Microsoft Office service and using Outlook.com can add other services email accounts to manage emails from one place.

It is not cleared why Microsoft and Google services are integrating into Outlook.com. But, it might be a move to combine business and personal emails. Till now Office 365 business users were able to integrate Gmail, Google Drive, Calendar in their desktop Outlook app and now Outlook.com users can do this also.

Microsoft detected BlueKeep attacks connected with a coin mining campaign on November 2, 2019 and urges users to update outdated Windows OS.

For the first time, Microsoft perceived a malware campaign weaponized the BlueKeep vulnerability. The Microsoft Defender ATP Research Team also warned about upcoming destructive BlueKeep attacks and recommended Windows users to patch their OS as soon as possible. According to Microsoft, these attacks are using the same C2 (Command-and-Control) infrastructure that was being used with the coin mining campaign detected in September.

What is BlueKeep?

BlueKeep is an unauthorized remote code vulnerability affecting the out-of-date Microsoft Windows Versions. It is a wormable (a self-spreading malware), indexed as CVE-2019-0708, which allows any malware exploiting the Windows vulnerability to spread from one computer to another even without any user interaction. It directly attacks in computers’ RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) that connects a computer (with Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2) to another over a network connection.

BlueKeep was first detected by UK National Cyber Security Centre in May and from May-mid, Microsoft is urging it’s users to apply a patch. BlueKeep directly attacks in the RDP of Windows computers and install a cryptocurrency miner, which allows cyberthreat to spread around quickly.

“As per our security signals, RDP-related crashes, associated with the use of unstable BlueKeep Metasploit module on certain sets of vulnerable machines”, quoted by Microsoft Defender ATP Research Team in an article.

A Critical Wormable Remote Code Execution Vulnerability in Windows RDP

In addition, Microsoft said that this is just the beginning of BlueKeep and the worst is yet to come. In future, the attackers will use BlueKeep for delivering the malicious payloads that will be much worse than these coin miners. BlueKeep will be a threat until the Windows Systems remain unpatched and the overall security posture will be unchecked.

The coin miner payloads delivered in the campaign were detected by Microsoft in UK, Spain, Italy, France, Russia, Ukraine, Germany and in several other countries. The attackers targeted all the vulnerable RDP services and downloaded multiple obfuscated PowerShell scripts, which were dropping the coin miner as final payload.

“Latest exploit attacks demonstrate that the BlueKeep will remain a threat as long as the Windows computers will remain unpatched and the entire security structure will remain unchecked”, Microsoft says.

Therefore, Microsoft is encouraging its Windows system users to update their outdated vulnerable systems immediately because all the unpatched devices could get infected or compromised easily. So, if you’re using an outdated Windows version, then the best method to address this vulnerability is to install the latest version of Windows OS.

Finally, its time to say Goodbye to Donut, KitKat, Oreo, and Lollipop because Google’s Android platform is on diet from now. Till date, Google used dessert-themed names for each major Android version and progressed names in alphabetical order after releasing Android Cupcake. However, with the upcoming mobile OS launch, the epoch or sweetness will be ended.

Thursday: Aug 22, 2019 – According to Google, the upcoming mobile operating system, earlier named Android Q, is leaving dessert monikers aside. The new Android Q will not be titled as Android Quesillo/ Quiche/ Quinoa but, will simply be called “Android 10”. This Google update has ended the tradition of the past ten years of naming Android OS versions with dessert names.

The Announcement of the Official Name of Android 10

Well, dessert-themed naming convention was really fun but now Android OS has become a global operating system and is used in 2.5 billion devices worldwide. So, the name of the Android OS must be clear and relatable for every user in the world. Therefore, we’ve decided that the next release of Android will simply use the version number as a name and be called Android 10.” the company posted in its official blog post.
Sameer Samat, responsible for Android products says “After a deep research, I found that pie is not a dessert in all languages, pronouncing lollipop is difficult in some regions and the meaning of marshmallows is nothing in many places. So, we think this major change can help to make Android OS names simpler and intuitive for the global community.

So, the official name of Android Q is Android 10, plain and super simple. Android 10 is so much more than 9 and a bit less than 11. Remembering Android 10 only will be much easier for users than remembering that Marshmallow is Android 6, Nougat is Android 7, Oreo is Android 8, and Pie is Android 9.

Android 10

The latest Android OS will officially be available in the fall from Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, although it has arrived in the shape of beta for some months. Then, it will be deployed to different mobile brands. Motorola, Huawei, LG, and several other companies have declared that their upcoming cell phones, especially from the high-end, will comprise Android 10. Some other innovations that will come up with Android Q are Security Improvements, Modern Gestures, Compatibility with 5G, Live Caption, and much more.

One More Update – Android Logo is Also Updated as a Part of This New Idea

Moreover, Google is updating the Android logo to give it a modern accessible look along with this new idea. This time, that Android robot is situated at the top of the text and the green color of the logo also has been replaced with black for improved visibility.

Updated Android 10 logo

The Verdict

Eventually, the latest Android version with the latest Android logo is about to come in a few weeks. From now on, all the upcoming Android versions will be known as Android 10, Android 11, and so on along with a modern logo.
